Whether your skin has always been oily, or it's recently become an overactive oil pumping machine, the Balance Facial Serum is formulated with ingredients that get things under control!

If you’re struggling with oily, combination, or acne-prone skin, getting oil production under control is super important! Besides oily skin being annoying (hello shiny oily mess by mid-day!), it's also the perfect breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria. Bacteria is completely natural and normal to the makeup of our skin, but once an oily environment is introduced, that bacteria start multiplying exponentially (which causes irritation, inflammation, and acne!).

So, let’s get that under control, shall we?

The Balance Facial Serum has ingredients that are similar to your skin’s sebum (your skin’s natural oil barrier), which is a good thing.

Why? Because our skin often starts overproducing oil in response to its protective barrier being depleted or damaged. By adding this serum to your skin, over time, your skin notices that a healthy and complete barrier has been created and doesn't feel the need to compensate with excess oil.

If that wasn’t awesome enough, excess oil (sebum) actually dissolves into the Balance Facial Serum (thanks to jojoba oil!). What that means is, not only does this serum work towards solving external causes of oily skin in the long term, it also helps break down excess oil in the short term!

Balance Serum also contains vitamin C. Why does that matter? Well, vitamin C does a lot of amazing things for the skin, but the benefit that those of us with oily, combination or acne-prone skin are most interested in is its ability to reduce redness and discolouration (including uneven colour leftover from acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage).

Looking for help with clogged, congested pores? The Balance Facial Serum tackles that too! How? By helping your skin to naturally dissolve any hardened clogs of debris & dead skin cells that are sitting in your pores!

Balance Facial Serum also helps protect the skin against free radicals with antioxidants, prevents the growth of acne-causing bacteria, and is enriched with skin-loving proteins, minerals, and vitamins including vitamin A & E, zinc, essential fatty acids omega 3 & 6, and gamma-linoleic acid (GLA).

In a nutshell:

  • Balances oily skin (goodbye excess oil!)
  • Reduces redness and hyperpigmentation (caused by acne scars or sun damage)
  • Frees up clogged pores by dissolving trapped debris

How to Use

  • Apply the serum after applying your mist (if you’re using one) or hydrator, and before your moisturizer. While moisturizers help lock serums into your skin, serums help lock mists into your skin! You don’t have to wait for the mist to fully absorb before applying your serum. But you should wait a few minutes between applying your serum and moisturizer.
  • Apply any time after you wash your face (hands, or other affected area).
  • During the winter, our skin needs extra help staying hydrated and protected from the elements. So, layer up your protection by using a mist, serum and moisturizer before heading out into the cold (or spending a lot of time in the dry indoor air!).

Key Ingredients

  • Borage Oil: While this wildflower extract isn't often found in the spotlight, its benefits shouldn't be ignored. Similar to the evening primrose, the oil extracted from the seeds of the plant are high in essential fatty acids, specifically linoleic acid. Part of the Omega 6 family, linoleic acid is known to help suppress inflammation and provide needed moisture.

  • Chamomile Oil: This natural oil is used in natural skin care products to help ease irritation from skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, acne and dry, flaky skin. Chamomile is a fast-drying oil that is easily absorbed by the skin to deliver ingredients deep into the skin where it’s needed most and provide relief.

  • Echinacea Extract: While echinacea is known for boosting our immune system, the lesser known fact is that it can provide the same support for your skin. The antimicrobial and antiseptic properties in echinacea help fight skin conditions like acne. As an added feature this extract also helps reduce the swelling of skin tissue caused by inflammation.

  • Grape Seed Oil: There’s a good reason as to why this fruit oil had been used for centuries to address skin ailments! Grape seed oil is the perfect thickness for skin application, and as such, is commonly used as the base for many naturally-based products. Polyphenols also make this an excellent choice for treating acne. As added benefits, grape seed oils also contain healthy amounts of vitamin C, D, & E to brighten and smooth out your complexion.

  • Green Tea Extract: This extract is packed with antioxidants (which stop free radicals in their tracks) and helps reduce inflammation - including inflammation caused by rosacea and acne. Green tea, because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, can also slow down some signs of aging.

  • Jojoba Oil: This moisturizer is like a second skin…. Literally. Jojoba oil is like our natural sebum’s identical twin and helps replenish the essential fatty acids needed to repair and protect our lipid barrier.

  • Licorice Extract: This extracted syrup from the root of a licorice plant is well known for its abilities to aid in the evening of skin tone and improve skin’s elasticity. Thanks to its high levels of antioxidants, it has also been proven to help in the healing process and inflammation of skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. For those suffering from oily skin, Licorice Root can help to regulate the skin’s oil production.

  • Pumpkin Seed Oil: It seems like the world is full of 'pumpkin spice' everything, but is it in your skincare too? If not, it should be! Not only does this oil deliver a healthy dose of vitamins and antioxidants like zinc, vitamin B and so much more, it also boosts collagen production to fight signs of aging and provides inflammation relief to keep your skin calm and clear. If that wasn't enough, the essential fatty acids that can be found in pumpkin extract help restore and build your lipid barrier to protect it from outside factors.

  • Vitamin C: This vitamin contains impressive amounts of antioxidants and is known to aid in the brightening of skin (i.e. helping reduce the signs of aging) and protecting it from free radicals. Vitamin C is also a natural alternative to drugstore toners, by helping reduce dark spots and other sun damage. When used as part of an acne skin care routine, it can also help reduce inflammation and dims post acne redness. Not to mention, skin feels firmer thanks to its ability to increase collagen production.

I already use a moisturizer! Why add a serum?

I don’t believe in adding more products to your skincare routine than needed, so you might be wondering why I’ve added serums to my line!

First off, I use them all the time! Why? Because serums are liquid tonics that are packed with vitamins, anti-oxidants and ingredients that contain active properties that target specific concerns. If there’s something specific you want to work on, serums are an easy way to add some extra oomph to your routine!

Secondly, serums are formulated to penetrate deep into your skin so they can heal and target specific concerns. They are able to penetrate deeper than moisturizers and can help restore skin to a balanced state. Plus, they are non-comedogenic, so no need to worry about clogged pores or a greasy residue.

Although serums can be moisturizing, their main purpose is to add nutrients deep into your skin that a moisturizer isn’t able to reach and keep the hydration levels in your skin stable. Having said that, keep your moisturizer in your routine! Applying your moisturizer after you apply a serum, will lock the serum into your skin, allowing the serum to do its best work without evaporating into the air.
